After starting the Facebook group Victoria BC Community Food Bank – a place for people to post when in need, and help others out when one can – it came to my attention that although we can help each other out, there may not always be someone who is able. So I thought I’d compile a full list of everywhere in Victoria you can grab something free to stock your fridge and fill your belly.
Victoria BC Food Banks
Monday to Friday from 9 am to 1:45 pm at The Mustard Seed Market, 625 Queens Ave. ID is required for everyone, and people may receive food assistance once each calendar month. Intake is just a matter of showing up (or people may call to request an appointment) with ID for the person and everyone in their household (partners, children).
Monday to Friday from 9 am to 4:30 pm at The Social Concern Office, 833 Yates St is where our vouchers are issued and Choice Pantry Food Bank is located. Their phone number is 250-382-0712, and you can get more information on those services at here.
Mondays and Fridays from 10 am to 12 pm at St. John The Divine, 1611 Quadra Street food hampers.
Mondays from 6 to 6:30 pm at UVic Family Centre. Free fresh food (and smiles!) Consider helping this program by clicking here.
Mondays from 5:30 to 6:30 pm at Central Baptist Church, 833 Pandora Avenue. Free fresh food.
Tuesdays from 5:00 to 6:00 pm at Gateway Baptist Church, 898 Royal Oak Avenue. Free groceries including fresh produce, staple items, and occasionally treats depending what the sponsors have provided.
Thursdays from 11 am to noon at Quadra Village. Free fresh food.
