It’s always a little daunting when I get a free excursion in exchange for a review; what if I don’t like it? I’m so honest and free on my blog, there’s no way I’d lie to my readers. Fortunately, I knew even before this one that it was going to absolutely rock… and it blew my expectations out of the water!
Novictor Helicopters in Oahu, Hawaii graciously invited me along for their Isle Sights Unseen helicopter tour. I was so insanely excited; I’d never been on a helicopter before, and couldn’t think of a better place to experience it than Hawaii! After a quick briefing they gave us cases that went around our necks to put our phones or cameras in – thank god, for I am world’s biggest klutz, and would probably have neither phone nor camera at this point without that. They know what they’re doing; I, on the other hand, did not think ahead quite as well as one would hope.
We went over to Novictor’s helicopters, and I totally lucked out, getting the front seat next to the pilot while two Japanese girls enjoyed the backseats. One of the most awesome things about Novictor is they are one of the few companies in Hawaii that offer doors off flights – and we were so in for that! The rush of having no doors to block the spectacular views from far above was amazing, and of course, the photos turned out way better than had there been doors.
We saw so many amazing sites as we soared through the air, passing by downtown Honolulu and Waikiki until we reached other parts of the island. We were able to catch a glimpse of Oahu’s tallest waterfall (not the tallest waterfall in the world, which is in Venezuela, but still cool!), which is only reachable by helicopter. Something I didn’t even know was on my bucket list is now checked off.
Mountains sprawled around us as the clouds touched their peaks, us hovering only slightly below. Meanwhile, the coastline was visible – a striking colour of blue, just like all the photos you see of Hawaii. Nope, they’re not photoshopped; this is the real deal. We got to see Pearl Harbor from the air, which was a spectacular site as a couple boats still lay sunken underneath the water. Hell, we even got a glimpse of a house that Keanu Reeves owns. Random, but very cool.
Our pilot, Christoff, was wonderful and so informative. It wasn’t just the views and a silent ride; on the contrary, he pointed out everything as we went along (hence knowing where Keanu Reeves’ house is!) I expected more of just a helicopter ride and less of a full on tour with everything being pointed out, but I was happily mistaken!
Novitor Helicopters is also one of the only helicopter companies in Hawaii to offer same day reservations; so if you spur of the moment want a helicopter ride, or one of your other excursions was cancelled, ta-da! You can hop on with minimal notice. I think this is pretty awesome as I’m someone who just goes with the flow, doing what I wish when I wish as it pops up.
In all, I absolutely adored my time with Novictor Helicopters, and hope to visit with them again on this or the next time I visit Hawaii for another one of their spectacular tours! Thanks so much to all the friendly faces I met today at Novictor Helicopters!
