My friend Eden and I arrived at Kerfoot Canopy Tour near Minneapolis on time and ready to rock the ziplines. Just one problem: I had stupidly booked it for the wrong day. Yep, we drove two and a half hours from Okoboji in northern Iowa on the wrong bloody day.
Fortunately the staff was extremely kind and accommodating, and despite it being completely my fault, they changed our reservation and got us in. Not only that, but, since our tour wasn’t planned for that day, we scored big time: Eden and I were the only people in our tour group with our guides! Usually tours run from eight to ten people, but we got to enjoy every moment just us and our bad ass guides, who were always cracking jokes and making the time extremely enjoyable.
We started out on the easy ziplines to get the hang of it before heading up into the sky. As the whole place is out in the middle of nowhere (yet very close to Minneapolis) the views were spectacular as we soared through the trees. Parts brought us over a great expanse of river valley, zipping along through the trees.
This was my third time ziplining, and easily my very favourite. With 14 ziplines and a suspension bridge added in, it was good fun. One part had the tiniest zipline you ever did see. We laughed, as our guide said, “But it’s more fun than stairs!” Hell yeah it was!
There were barely any hikes involved in it, the journey beginning with a short ATV ride to the ziplines, making it great for all fitness levels. You can also rent a GoPro for a reasonable price or bring your own for extra spectacular videos and photos.
The course usually takes about two and a half hours, though it was obviously shorter for us as we were such a tiny group, but the timeframe didn’t matter at all; it was how much fun we had that was rad.
Overall I’d head back to Kerfoot Canopy Tour any day. In fact, Eden never would have gone out of her way for such a thing, but after this adventure she’s already counting down until next time – and I won’t lie, I am too for the next time I find myself in this area!
