Drugs are bad, mmkay?

I feel like I’ve just awoken from a terrible, terrible nightmare.

No, I didn’t get robbed (not this time). Yes, I am completely fine now.

…And yes, I did something stupid. Come on, it’s me, you knew it was coming. This one was particularly bad.

Two days ago I set out in the afternoon to find a bar to have a drink at and make some friends. As I walked by one of the hundreds of bars on Bangla road, an Aussie passed me a pair of sunglasses and said, “Free sunglasses if you come in and buy a beer!” Sure, why not?

So I proceeded to drink with the group of Aussies. And they kept buying my beers. Then my rye and gins (because oh my god rye exists in other parts of the world and this excites me). Then shots kept coming. Needless to say, I was trashed. There was a couple from Perth who joined us, and at some point I went back to their gorgeous hotel for a drink or two. All was well, I was just rather drunk. I decided I’d like to go sleep after this drink.

Here is when stupidity kicked in.

“I have these diet pills, they keep you awake, do you want one?”

I hesitated.

Then I said yes. She and I both did one. I don’t know what I was thinking – this is so unlike me. Clearly I wasn’t thinking at all.

I went to sleep anyway.

Yesterday was the sickest I’ve been in a very, very long time. I mean, I was writhing in bed in absolute nauseated pain. I couldn’t throw up, and when I did it was bright yellow or bright green.

A quick internet search reveals that, despite Thailand’s intense war on drugs, these diet pills actually contain amphetamine. Seriously. I took speed. Then I went to sleep and suffered the aftermath of speed.

Drugs are bad mmmkay?

Also, don’t take diet pills. Tip of the day.

Time to get out of Patong and to a quieter beach!
